Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are used to support hair density in pattern hair loss, also called androgenetic alopecia, which is the form of hair loss the published research has studied most. That research is still limited and the results across studies are mixed, so PRP is not appropriate for every kind of hair loss and we do not promise regrowth. Dr. Myers evaluates whether your hair loss fits the pattern that tends to respond before recommending it. Treatment is usually given as a series of at least three sessions. Changes are not immediate, and if you respond at all, the timing and degree of any change can vary. Some patients need additional sessions on an as-needed basis as directed by Dr. Myers.
Microneedling
Our most popular procedure is a PRP microneedling facial using the SkinPen device. SkinPen was the first microneedling device to receive FDA marketing authorization, for improving the appearance of facial acne scars in adults aged 22 or older; that authorization does not cover hair-loss treatment or delivery of PRP through the device. Microneedling is used to improve the appearance of skin texture and fine lines. Results vary from person to person, and temporary redness and swelling after a treatment are expected.
